Takihara Shrine, a branch shrine of the Ise Grand Shrine, is located in Takihara, Taiki Town, deep in the heart of Ise, surrounded by abundant nature and tranquility.
Once every 20 years, an "okihiki" ceremony is held in which lumber for the newly rebuilt shrine is loaded onto a cart and pulled along by the people of the shrine territory.
This rare and unique traditional event will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Currently, the H.I.S. New Year's Dream Fair is looking for participants for the Takihara Shrine Shikinen Sengu Mikihiki Special Offering Tour, which departs from Nagoya on April 11th, a one-day-only event where you can experience a once-in-20-years Shinto ritual.
The bus tour departing and returning from Nagoya costs 45,800 yen and includes accommodation at the VISON Inn, three meals, an experience, a lecture, a Mikihiki happi coat, an obi (sash), a handkerchief, etc.
Why is it special?
Takihara Shrine is a branch shrine of Ise Grand Shrine, and is a historic shrine that has been revered since ancient times as the "Harbor Shrine of the Great God."
The Mikihiki is a folk event that takes place during the Shikinen Sengu, the shrine's largest festival, and is said to have originated as a service performed by the people of the shrine's domain.
This is now a valuable opportunity for people from outside the town to participate.
The Mikihiki ceremony at Takihara Shrine only takes place once every 20 years, and usually only once a year, meaning this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
